I hate when people mention someone in their life by their name without providing me with any context about who this person is.

“So Dylan and I went to yoga class yesterday — ”

Hold it right there. Who the fuck is Dylan. Your boyfriend? Your arch nemesis? Your brother? Your pet sea monkey? Your therapist? Your favourite fictional character? Are you on a first-name basis with your dad? Last-name basis with Bob? WHO THE FUCK IS DYLAN.

Marina and The Diamonds: A Summary (insp)

I just think it’s such an amazing thing to be able to tell stories and tell people’s stories. And I hope one day that I’m lucky enough to be in the kind of show that raises awareness about something. I think it’s a really important medium to make people think about things in a different way.

I did! And I’m upset, but probably for different reasons. There’s nothing I hate more than unnecessary and manipulative writing. It’s cheap and lazy. And the more I think about the Our Girl finale, the more annoyed I get.

Among the many problems I had with it, probably Smurf’s end was what bugged me the worst. Like, it was no surprise he was going to bite it 1. since he sang about being Newport ‘til he dies in the second episode and 2. Iwan Rheon is far too busy to continue being a series regular, buuut I had hoped for a different outcome, a near-death experience and writing him off or something. I was hoping they wouldn’t go the cliche route and yet…

But to have him be finally content and to just collapse and die of a hemorrhage AND have his poor mother lose TWO sons, her twins, her only children? And so late in the finale? It felt cheap and manipulative, as if the show decided things were too neat and had to have some random drama or death to make everyone cry and REALLY make this an award contender…it didn’t make me sad, it just ticked me off. They can try to pass it off as the casualties of war or whatever they want to say to spin It, but no. It felt manipulative and really soapy and it didn’t make me super emotional, it just really annoyed me, it felt lazy.

But yeah, no complaints with the acting itself, everyone had amazing performances. However, the writing, I felt dropped severely in the last two episodes. But Lacey and Iwan (also Smurf’s mother, talk about doing so much with so little) were fantastic and will hopefully get some award nominations.

Sorry for the long ass post, I had a lot of aggravated feelings, clearly.
